Jimbaran lies on the western side of Bali’s narrow isthmus, a sweeping golden-sand bay that curves for five kilometres from the southern side of the airport to the bushy headland that’s home to the Four Seasons Resort and the start of the Bukit Peninsula. Despite many five-star developments in the area, Jimbaran Beach remains quiet during the daytime.

A seafood feast at Jimbaran Beach (2.4 km from Villa Kapungkur) is a must for every holiday in Bali. Here, the glorious west-facing beach is home to a plethora of seafood ‘warung’; these simple eateries extend across the length of the beach and serve up the catch of the day, perfect for a sunset dinner.

A sultry beach-club by day, boasting Bali’s longest beachfront pool and serving small plates and lobster-crowned platters of seafood-on-ice, Sundara (1.9km) transforms into a fine-dining destination by night, lit by fire-pits. The dinner menu presents bold, fresh international flavours to complement the fiery sunset views, and every dish, including desserts, is layered with an element of wood, smoke or fire.

Housed in an open-sided pavilion, the gorgeous Balique (3.3km) mixes traditional Indonesian architecture with baroque decor featuring colonial furnishings, vintage sofas, antiques and objets d’art, highlighted by a dazzling array of chandeliers and retro lampshades suspended from the soaring roof. The kitchen serves a café-style menu of fresh, healthy dishes of both Indonesian and European origin, including French and Italian.

From its humble beginnings as a surfers’ hangout, Single Fin (16.2km) quickly escalated into Uluwatu’s hippest cliff-top bar, sunset chill-out and live entertainment spot. Non-surfers can simply kick back on the huge deck and enjoy the nail-biting action displayed by the pros riding the waves below. Food includes hearty salads and delicious pizzas to share, pasta, satays, nachos and more.
