Step into your own fairytale Villa

Villa Kapungkur is like nothing you’ve ever seen before.

Accommodating up to 10 adults and 4 children, Villa Kapungkur comprises five luxurious bedrooms, an open-sided ‘Wantilan’ pavilion with a kitchen, bar and lounge area under a soaring ‘alang alang’ thatched roof, an alfresco dining area with a table for 12, a swimming pool and a spa pavilion. The Javanese theme is maintained throughout with a classic palate of natural stone, recycled timbers and shady verandas crafted into a graceful cohesive whole.

Each of the bedrooms presents a plush king-sized bed, a TV, and some striking antique furnishings, including desks and chairs and a ‘gerobog’ rice storage chest on wheels. Each bathroom is fitted with a rainshower, twin washbasins and a luxurious bathtub. Three of the bedrooms feature timber walls, while the other two are white walled with wooden floors and opulent touches of artfully carved teakwood. The bed in the ‘Suite’ is framed by an ornate headboard, while the ‘Gebyog’ room is named after the intricately-carved Javanese screen wall at its entrance. The other three bedrooms, each with incredibly romantic private garden bathrooms, are housed in traditional standalone wooden buildings from Java. The master is an antique ‘Joglo’, which was once the home of a nobleman, its centrepiece being a dreamy four-poster marriage bed positioned under the ‘tumpang sari’– a series of staggered horizontal beams with elaborate carvings.  Another bedroom can be found in a traditional ‘Gladak’, a charming, colourful, rectangular house, elevated above the ground, and characterised by a covered, fenced veranda, accessed by a set of steps. Inside, the bed is positioned beneath a beautifully carved wooden arch.

The fifth bedroom is in the ‘Limasan’ house, which is similar to the joglo with the underside of its roof supported by tall timber pillars; the room is furnished with a stunning four-poster bed embellished with yet more sumptuously carved details.

The villa’s poetic water gardens are dotted with carved stone statues, sweet-scented frangipani trees and tropical flowers, which will greet you at every twist and turn. The social hub is the villa’s 15-metre waterfall-fed swimming pool; it has a stone terrace, furnished with an additional alfresco dining table, circular daybeds, and a welcoming pergola that drips with lilac thunbergia flowers to provide a shady retreat.
